Paradise by the Pyramids:
Professor Joann Fletcher
Monday 27th May, Doors Open 7 pm - Lecture 7.30 pm
With ‘Paradise’ the theme of this year’s Big Ideas By The Sea festival, our festival patron Prof. Joann Fletcher will be discussing the way in which the ancient Egyptians viewed such a concept. Taking us on a journey through their intricate belief system and how this fitted into their unique environment, we’ll discover how they were able to accept and develop ideas from around the ancient world to create their ultimate version of paradise, Egyptian-style.
Professor Joann Fletcher is Visiting Professor at the Department of Archaeology, University of York. She is a founding member of the university’s Mummy Research Group. She is also Lead Ambassador for the Egypt Exploration Society and consultant for the museums of Harrogate, Barnsley and Wigan.
