Rick Buckler:
Former Drummer Of The Jam, In Conversation
Saturday 27th May, 3.30pm - 4.30pm
Drummer Rick Buckler, the powerhouse behind The Jam rhythm section, makes his debut visit to the Big Ideas By The Sea festival, and will be in conversation with our very own Patrick Argent.
Featuring Rick Buckler alongside Paul Weller and Bruce Foxton, The Jam emerged as the leading protagonists of a resurgent Mod revival during the punk/new wave era of the late 70’s and early 80’s. They were a major force at the very forefront of the British music scene, subsequently having a significant influence on the Britpop era of the 90’s.
Rick Buckler has written several books about his career in music, and his latest volume - The Jam 1982 – (published recently by Omnibus Press) reflects on the trio’s final year before they disbanded, unexpectedly. That tumultuous twelve-month period would see the recording and releasing of the band’s final LP ‘The Gift’ and the last appearances of The Jam as a live outfit, even though they were at the peak of their popularity and fame.
There will be copies of ‘The Jam 1982’ to buy.
This is bound to be a very popular event, so please book early to avoid disappointment!
