The Big Draw:

Drop in Workshops with Petra Ingham

Thu 25th - Sat 27th May, 11.00am - 4.00pm

The Big Draw is back!

Artist Petra Ingham will be running drop-in drawing workshops, inviting everyone to take part in making a collaboration of small drawings. These drawings will then form part of a suspended installation, celebrating archaeological finds from Big Ideas by the Sea’s Big Dig. All drawing materials will be provided.

Petra is artist in residence at St Mary’s Church, Scarborough. As a contemporary abstract artist, her work focuses on the relationship between art and sound. Listening to different genres of music, and immersing herself in the sounds of nature, allows for a spontaneous and intuitive emotional response. Petra’s work has more recently been influenced by the stunning stained glass windows and stone. This immersive experience, found all around her,  inspired new work in her studio at the Church.

Alongside the Big Draw workshops, artist and teacher Michael Roberts will be exhibiting a number of small works around the Church for the discerning viewer to discover, from Friday 19th May.

Michael was previously a set and costume designer, scenic artist and painter. His current mixed-media work responds to human presence and interaction with the landscape. Photography, mark-making and collages record and seek contact with these interactions, the people who made them, their history and personal narrative. You can find his works around the church, to join the journey and voyage of discovery.
