Writing to Change the World:
Playwright, Screenwriter...
Monday 29th May, 7.30pm - 9.00pm
Playwright, screenwriter, director, dramaturge, collaborator and mentor – Alison Watt is all of these and more and will share her story with us.
She will demonstrate how true-to-life and imaginative story making can lead to personal and even global change and will describe her own journey from the lighting of the creative fuse; blundering around; working with experts (in TV and with Ayckbourn, Godber and Plater); finding her unique creative self; experimentation; sharing the knowledge and continuing the quest.
Alison will explore how imaginative story-making can help us change our own daily narratives – she will outline her work with new writers, including editing (whether by ourselves or by others) and there will be some simple exercises for audience members – so please bring a pen and paper if you would like to.
Alison has had original plays produced by Soho Theatre, Hull Truck and the SJT; she worked on EastEnders and Crossroads; she co-founded Beach Hut Theatre Company, a new writing company based in Scarborough, in 2007 and since then she has written and/or contributed to over one hundred original plays and musicals for the company; all of which have gone on to be showcased or fully produced before an audience.
In 2016 Alison received the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain’s Olwen Wymark Theatre Encouragement Award.
